DAB310_Assignment 1_The Architects Apprentice_Part B

This is my chosen Exemplar house for Design Project_01....Converncey House (France) by Architects BERNARD QUIROT.  Bernard Quirot are renowned for there "box like" designs and contemporary Architecture, providing it's clients with an out of the ordinary external designs, while maintaining structure and minimalism to the interior. 

 ENVIRONMENTAL FILTER

This house is a simple, humble design, a container of human activities and delightful experience whilst maintaining an environmental filter.

located in Grachaux, France, the Clients brief was for the house to capture the surrounding landscape as a machine, with a design of only 125m2.

Engaging with its surrounding environment, the house creates its own environmental filter, with purpose designed angled windows providing great views and the use of native woods, the house camouflages within the surrounds.  Humble spaces are achieved in the house, both public and private such as the outside deck areas.  The floor plan is very simple and structured, the Architects dividing the house into three different zones, Public, Private and wet area's, with are simply aligned in am effortless fashion.

 CONTAINER OF HUMAN ACTIVITIES & DELIGHTFUL EXPERIENCE

Internal spaces are fresh, with polished timber flooring and plain white walls. Natural timber to the door and window frames with the open fireplace creates a warm inviting feel to the internal zones of the house.  The design of the house is associated with its climate, thick walls and floors heavily insulated and double glazed windows.  The use of full height glazing and view appropriate windows gives the clients picture frame like views.  The interior provides year round comfort to suit it's surrounding yearly climate. 

Overall this house is a simple, yet elegant design encompassing its natural surrounds and placing little environmental impact.
